Washington, D.C. —The SCORE Association, "Counselors to America's Small Business" has named W. Kenneth Yancey, Jr. chief executive officer responsible for all the association's management operations. In this new position, Yancey is responsible for coordinating national operations, program efforts and developing the organization's business plan and vision. He begins his role as CEO on October 1, 2000.

Yancey's promotion to CEO is preceded by his seven years of establishing SCORE as a premier small business resource. Yancey first assembled a strong association staff to contribute and support his efforts to develop the association. He then initiated the association's national alliance program, acquiring high-level partnerships, developing a network of supporting small business leaders and bringing more quality resources to SCORE clients. In 1997, Yancey supported the web development team in the endeavor to establish SCORE's presence on the Internet. This initiative led to the expansion of SCORE's Email Counseling service.

He will dedicate his time and expertise to SCORE in his role as the chief executive officer by working with the SCORE Board of Directors in setting the organization's governance policy, fundraising strategy and market direction. He will work closely with field leadership to guide the national efforts and goals. He will continue to work with the team that he assembled to map new paths for SCORE and for America's small business.

SCORE Chairman Donald Phelan says, "Ken has been an advocate in the small business marketplace and in SCORE. He has helped set a course to define the future direction of SCORE. His experience and drive will cover new territory for other nonprofits to follow."

Yancey took an innovative approach as a member of the SOHO Summit Advisory Board to develop the first arena for small and home business industry leaders to join for the good of small business. The SOHO Summit is now a leading, highly-acclaimed annual conference. Inspired by his passion to help others advance in the small business market, Yancey has spoken at the American Society of Association Executives Management and Technology Conference and the National Center For Nonprofit Boards Leadership Forum.

SCORE CEO Ken Yancey says, "I will continue to make SCORE the strong organization it has become, to streamline management operations and to work the board to enhance the quality of service SCORE offers to America's small business."

Yancey's business experience includes eight years of executive positions in the banking industry. He used his leadership skills to coordinate operations and to lead teams to achieve corporate goals. In these positions, he focused strongly on the small business market. Yancey resides in Ashburn, Virginia. He received a degree in business administration and finance from Texas A&M University.
