TREASURE COAST SCORE AND SMALL BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT CENTER FORM ALLIANCE

New synergy will enhance support to the Treasure Coast Small Business Community

George Greenstein, Chairman of the Treasure Coast Chapter of The SCORE Association, and Donna Rivett, Assistant Dean of Industrial Education, Indian River State College, announced that they have reached an agreement to combine their respective resources to enhance support to the Treasure Coast Small Business Community.

For years, the two organizations have offered education and mentoring help to the Treasure Coast Small Business Community and will now streamline their offerings to both new and existing small business owners and operators.  By combining their respective resources, the Treasure Coast SCORE Chapter and the Small Business Development Center (SBDC), the alliance will be able to leverage their offerings better and deliver more comprehensive programs to their clients.

In partnership with the Hobe Sound Chamber of Commerce, the Alliance will be piloting a new JumpStart workshop series for existing Martin County Small Businesses, which began on May 18th, and is aimed at helping the business owner reach better business decisions through enhanced planning and execution.

In addition, the Alliance is currently planning to offer a QuickStart new business workshop series, which is intended to help entrepreneurs reach the right Go or No-Go decision for their new venture beginning in October of this year. Both programs will be offered at a nominal fee and are intended to given throughout the following year at the campuses of IRSC, across the Treasure Coast.

“This alliance between two of SBA’s major resource partners will greatly benefit the small business community in the area. It is important that aspiring entrepreneurs are given a chance to become successful in their endeavors.” says Tom Gallman, Sr. Area Manager, US Small Business Administration.

SCORE is made up of volunteers who have been involved in business throughout their careers, and who want to assist others in becoming successful.  Backgrounds are varied, and many industries and specialties are represented.  In addition, a national registry of specialists is available to the counselors to allow them to get special advice and access remote expertise.

SCORE counseling is available in six locations across the Treasure Coast through the local office in Ft. Pierce, 772-489-0548, by logging onto the website www.SCORE308.com, or by calling one of the Chamber of Commerce offices and asking for an appointment.  Counseling is generally scheduled in one hour blocks.

The SBDC at IRSC provides Indian River, Martin, Okeechobee, and St. Lucie County residents with increased and more convenient access to free management counseling and workshops to help small business owners and entrepreneurs succeed in today’s challenging business environment. Business owners can utilize Business analysts certified by the Florida SBDC Network and for counseling, information and educational programs geared especially towards small businesses. Business analysts are available, by appointment, at all IRSC campuses, ensuring a dedicated SBDC presence in all four counties served by the College. Counseling appointments may be made by calling the SBDC at IRSC Office the main campus of IRSC at 1-888-283-1177 or on the center website: www.sbdc-irsc.com.

Also, anyone who is interested in considering joining the local SCORE volunteer organization should call the Ft. Pierce office and make an appointment with the Chapter Leadership Committee.
