SCORE “Counselors to America’s Small Business” to Present Bob Souza with Its Highest National Award for Volunteer Service

Washington, D.C.—The SCORE Association will present the Walter H. Channing Award of Excellence to SCORE Cyberchapter Chair Bob Souza, who played an important role in establishing SCORE’s highly successful email counseling service. This national honor is the highest recognition awarded by SCORE and will be presented to Souza December 9, at the fourth annual SCORE District Directors Conference in New Orleans.

Souza, a counselor with the Hawaii SCORE Chapter since 1993, has been a leading advocate for the SCORE’s 24/7 email counseling service since its inception in 1996. As Cyberchapter chair, he coordinates communication between SCORE email counselors and clients to ensure consistent quality in client service. Souza also assists in development of operating plans for the Cyberchapter, and is involved in testing and evaluation of any new email counseling features. SCORE email counselors conducted more than 100,000 business counseling sessions in FY03.

SCORE CEO Ken Yancey says, “Bob Souza’s contributions to SCORE’s email counseling service have an immeasurable positive impact on our ability to serve small business owners.” Yancey adds, “Bob’s extraordinary dedication to serve entrepreneurs nationwide exemplifies what this award is about.”

In addition to his leadership of the Cyberchapter, Souza has served as the Hawaii SCORE chapter chair and as a district manager. The Walter H. Channing Award, named for one of SCORE’s founders and its first national president, recognizes outstanding service to the organization. Channing was a Detroit businessman who devoted more than 30 years of service to SCORE. SCORE will also recognize the late Lenny Kattan, with the Channing Award. Kattan was instrumental in establishing a training program for SCORE counselors around the country.
