SCORE “Counselors to America’s Small Business” Honors the Late Lenny Kattan with Its Highest National Award for Volunteer Service

Washington, D.C.—The SCORE Association will present the Walter H. Channing Award of Excellence posthumously to Lenny Kattan of Orange County SCORE. Kattan is survived by his wife Marilyn Kattan, who will accept the award. The Walter H. Channing Award is the highest award presented by SCORE to volunteers who further the organization’s mission of providing business counseling and training to America’s entrepreneurs.

SCORE CEO Ken Yancey will present the award to Marilyn Kattan on December 9, at the fourth annual SCORE District Directors Conference in New Orleans. Kattan is being honored for his exemplary volunteer service in developing SCORE’s national volunteer orientation and training programs. Kattan’s efforts aid the quality operation of SCORE chapters and premier business counseling provided by volunteers to entrepreneurs.

Yancey says, “Lenny Kattan’s work helped establish a culture of volunteer training for the SCORE Association.” Yancey adds, “Lenny was instrumental in developing a volunteer orientation, handbook and leadership training program for SCORE volunteers nationwide.”

As a SCORE volunteer, Kattan held numerous leadership positions including committee chair, chapter chair, district manager and national volunteer director of training. He was a recipient of the Platinum Service Award, the second highest honor in SCORE. The Walter H. Channing Award, named for one of the founders of SCORE and its first national president, recognizes outstanding service to the organization. Bob Souza of Honolulu, Hawaii was also chosen to receive the Channing award this year for his role in establishing SCORE’s email counseling service.
