Business community gathers in Great Valley

Commerce and Business Showcase presented by the Chester County Chamber of Business and Industry and Chester County SCORE had straightforward goals in mind.

“It’s designed to highlight the local businesses here in Chester County and throughout the region, and it’s a great opportunity for those businesses to network and build relationships,” chamber Program Director James Logan said.

In addition to being a relationship-builder, the expo at Penn State Great Valley was geared to maximize local product and service use.

“A lot of the time I think we don’t take advantage of what’s right here in our own backyard,” chamber President Nancy Keefer said. “This is our approach to saying, ‘Let’s do business locally,’ because we have so many great products and services available here.”

Sixty different vendors from a wide range of sectors set up booths at the event.

“We have almost all of the industry clusters here to today – manufacturing, (information technology), life science technology, environmental, retail,” Logan said. “It’s a small representation of all the businesses here.”

Numerous area lawmakers attended the event, including State Sen. Andy Dinniman, D-19th of West Whiteland.

“I want to thank Chester County SCORE and the Chester County Chamber of Business and Industry for organizing this event,” Dinniman said. “It’s great to know that we have experienced organizations and volunteers in Chester County that are eager to help others achieve the American dream. We know that when businesses succeed economically, they improve the tax base, and bring jobs and improve the quality of life in our communities.”

The expo gave lawmakers a chance to hear what the business community has to say on issues affecting them.

“They look at this opportunity to come out and talk to businesses about what’s going on, and ask what they can do in Harrisburg to help make this a better environment,” Keefer said.
