Mike Miottel was the founding partner and President of MJM Management Company, LLC.  The company started in 1986 and acts as Contract Sales Management for small consumer products manufacturers.  MJM specializes in Consumer Packaged Goods (“CPG”), consumable natural, gourmet and specialty food products sold to consumers through the US grocery and natural food channels. MJM Management is known as a “Next Stage” expert, taking start-ups into first markets, local companies into regional expansion and regional companies into national distribution.  Clients vary in size from less than $200,000 to $25 million in annual sales.

After 26 years running MJM Management and a total of 50 years in sales, Mike Miottel retired in mid 2014.  The business is headquartered in Mill Valley, California and is now run by Matt and David Miottel, Mike’s sons.

Client Experiences            1986 – 2014

There are 1,000's of really great products and product concepts that want to enter the consumer market place every year. Many of these products never get on the shelf or fail once there due to a lack of understanding the nuances of how the channels work and what the costs to achieve success will be.  If positioned properly these new products can get on to the retailer shelf where the consumers can find them. Getting products through the channels and onto the retail shelf is where I can help.  Until a consumer can buy an item it can’t succeed.

Sales Management                                                                Grew sales for a specialty Dairy Company building sales from $900,000 to $25 million annually by adding 1,000’s of new stores

On Line Consumer Markets                                                Expanded client sales into on-line channels such as Amazon and Walmart building sales from a zero base to over $1 million annually.

New Product Launch                                                                 Planned for and managed launch of several new consumer brands regionally and nationally.

Categories included Soft Drinks, Bottled Teas, Bottled Water, Soy Products, Goat Yogurts, Fluid Dairy Milk, and Snacks.

Export Development                                                                   Pioneered export sales for several clients in the Pacific Rim, Mexico, Central and South America and the Caribbean.

Project Management                                                                     Turned around Natural Snack Food manufacturer, gained national distribution for the brand in 18 months.

Market Research                                                                         Investigated the potential of a product launch in Afghanistan, including consumer and market issues and funding requirements to go to market.

Corporate History                                                                     Senior Sales Management for two Fortune top 100 Consumer Packaged Goods Manufacturers –     1972-1986

A great idea does not guarantee great profits. If a company's R&D dollars are going to pay off in profitable products and technologies, it needs a strategy that not only makes markets, but also beats the competition. This program presented a depth of challenges that extend from R&D to manufacturing, engineering, project management, and new ventures, and provided an innovative and powerful approach to developing technologies and products that people want to buy. The program material also explored ways to link those technologies and products with a company's business strategy.</p>
